Future-oriented newsrooms

If digital transformation used to be the key paradigm of the past 20 years, the transformation of digital itself is likely going to be the one for the next 20. A whole host of new technologies (web3, AI, mixed reality) are on the verge of breaking through and changing the beacons of how reality is experienced and captured.

To make sense of these transformative technologies, newsrooms need to adopt both a future mindset as well as a prototyping approach turning words into actions that help audiences understand the potential as well as the consequences of upcoming technologies.

In this panel we shared examples and engaged in a conversation about possible and plausible news futures. Mindful of structural inequalities in the industry, we also highlighted how innovation capabilities (and the resources to capture the great potential now in front of us!) are unevenly distributed across organisations and regions and engaged in a discussion about how we could mitigate this.
