My journalism predictions for 2023

I don’t tend to make predictions for the future of journalism, because that would require me having faith in the industry to a) understand what the right thing is and b) do that thing. I don’t have a lot of faith in that.

However, I have incredible faith in the many people I get to work with, who are all doing their best to change what the industry looks like and who it serves.

Foremost among those is my journalistic hero, Megan Lucero, who I’m proud to share a byline with here, for Nieman Journalism Lab‘s predictions for 2023.

I sincerely hope that the future of journalism looks different from the past.

I’ve also written a bit about the future of public interest journalism for Journalism.co.uk, alongside the much wiser thoughts of Jonathan Heawood and Sameer Padania. We all have hope in the breakdown of traditional models creating space for new ways of thinking about how journalism that truly serves people and communities might be funded.
